Welcome To The World Of The Metamorphic Technique

The Metamorphic Technique is a unique practice which points towards the possibility of transformation, present within us all. The power which fuels this is the totality of Life, which can guide us beyond our self-imposed limitations. The natural world gives us clues about the process at work. A caterpillar needs only two things to metamorphose into a butterfly: to be alive, and to be in the correct environment. When both requirements are met, the caterpillar contains all that is necessary to create a new state of being. As humans do. The simple, yet revolutionary principle at work here is that we all have the potential to participate in our own transformation.

What Happens in a Session?

Metamorphic Technique practitioners work from an attitude of inner detachment. This does not imply disinterest at all; rather, it means that energetically we keep ourselves out of the way of the person we are working with. This approach can be defined as: noticing the facts of the recipient, acknowledging the presence of these facts, and then simply letting them be. During a session, the practitioner applies a light, non-invasive touch to the spinal reflex zones on the feet, hands and head. This practice is based on the understanding that transformation is a natural movement of all Life, and nature once again provides a good illustration of how this concept works in practice. Place an acorn on a chair in your house and of course it cannot transform because it is in the wrong environment for this to happen. Plant it in the earth instead and the acorn has the possibility of fulfilling its potential as an oak tree. The practitioner’s role is akin to that of the earth: neither imposes anything, and neither tries to influence the outcome. Instead, acorn and recipient both draw in what they need from their environment. This practice is safe and suitable for everyone, including babies, the terminally ill, and those with special needs. As practitioners we do not make any claims for this work, but people report that they notice a wide variety of improvements in their lives: renewed physical health, enhanced emotional and spiritual well-being, more fulfilling relationships, and significant life shifts. Often they speak of coming home to themselves.

Gaston Saint-Pierre Metamorphic Technique

Origins Of The Metamorphic Technique

Gaston Saint-Pierre was a French Canadian living in the UK who developed the concept and practice of the Metamorphic Technique in the 1970’s. Gaston subsequently taught the work worldwide. He wrote books and many articles on the subjects of consciousness and transformation. In 1979, he set up the Metamorphic Association, which in 1984 became a registered educational charity. He died in 2011, and the profound contribution he made towards our collective understanding of human potential continues to inspire people around the world.

All too often, when a problem arises in life, we burn up our energy in fruitless anxiety and attempts to find a solution. We may even try to manipulate a problem by ‘positive thinking’, prayer or concentration on it. In fact, all these activities merely ensure that the problem continues to exist on the same level. Maybe disappearing for a while, only to reappear later with greater intensity.
There is a different approach. When there is awareness of a fact, with no thought processes attempting to suppress or express the energy of that fact, the energy seems for a while poised. And in that state of suspension, something new is created. The energy starts moving of its own accord…Then the energy of the fact evolves in its own direction of release, of transformation. Order is therefore created at a different level from the one at which the energy was originally operating. This movement is spontaneous, and most of the time, unconscious. It is operating in accordance with its own necessity, with no effort because we are now in the domain of unity.

About Catherine

I grew up in north London, the youngest of five children. My parents were both actors, and their enthusiasm for the Arts was highly influential. I learned to play the piano and from my late teens to early thirties wrote poetry, published in the small presses. I took an English Literature degree, graduating in 1991. Afterwards, I studied copy-editing and proofreading, and co-edited a poetry and fiction magazine with a group of writers. I also worked as a reader for short story competitions.

I became interested in spirituality and complementary approaches to health in my twenties and came across the Metamorphic Technique in 1993. I tried a taster session and it had a strong impact on me. I knew at once that this practice was going to be significant so I began having regular sessions. My life altered dramatically, in many ways. The power and originality of this work motivated me to embark on a series of training courses with the founder Gaston Saint-Pierre, after which I became a practitioner. I have been working with the Metamorphic Technique ever since.

I now live and work in Deal in East Kent. If you have any questions, or would like to book a session, you can contact me directly. I have a sliding scale and offer taster sessions. I also help to organise events for the Metamorphic Association in the UK. To find about more about the work of our association, please visit: www.metamorphicassociation.org

FAQ

Do I need to prepare in any way before a session?

There is nothing you need to do beforehand. If you like, you could wear relatively loose, comfortable clothes to attend your session, as you will usually be sitting or lying down for an hour.

How will I feel after a session?

This entirely depends on you. Each person is unique, with their own needs and experiences. Practitioners have no expectations of there being any right or wrong way for people to feel after a session.

How many sessions will I need?

Again, this is entirely up to you. A Metamorphic Technique practitioner will not be trying to influence you in any way; only you can decide how many sessions you may need. The most important thing is to be guided by what feels right for you.

Why do Metamorphic Technique practitioners work on the spinal reflex zones on the feet, hands and head?

The spinal reflex areas correspond to the gestation period, where all the patterns with which we live our lives now were first established. So in one way, touching these specific areas is like referring to the whole of you from your very beginning.

My feet are ticklish, so how can I have a session?

Since ticklishness is actually just surface tension, usually the sensation will disappear if the practitioner firmly touches each foot all over just before working on it.
